Jack Rabbit Hill Tree Planting

October 9 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Over the next few weeks, clean-up efforts will begin at the vacant lot affectionately known as Jack Rabbit Hill. This once residential area was severally flooded in 1971 and was later converted to a construction landfill after years of no development. Many residents still residing on Way and Sandusky Avenues (adjacent to Jack Rabbit Hill) can recall the day of the disastrous flood and have seen the transition of Jack Rabbit Hill over the past decades. Now a vacant greenspace, neighbors fondly remember riding bikes up and down the hill, and still believe there is great potential for the space.

On Friday, October 9th Western Reserve Land Conservancy will be hosting a community tree planting at Jack Rabbit Hill in partnership with Bank of America. Following several years of community discussions, this tree planting will serve as the first step toward reaching the vision residents of the Union Miles neighborhood have for Jack Rabbit Hill. Western Reserve Land Conservancy embarked on this project as part of its ongoing Ground Work Initiative, which focuses on enhancing vacant spaces with sustainable, beautiful, green designs—guided by the input of residents. There is quite a bit of excitement surrounding this endeavor and hopes that its completion, will elicit a fondness for the youth of these generations– as the Jack Rabbit Hill of yesteryear did for the many generations before.

In conjunction with Bank of America and the Union Miles Development Corporation, Western Reserve Land Conservancy encourages community members to participate in the Jack Rabbit Hill tree planting. Interested volunteers should contact Amanda Cramer (Planning Project Manager, Union Miles Development Corporation) at amandac@unionmiles.org. Available participation slots are limited due to COVID-19 related safety measures, processes, and procedures.  Please complete the registration below.
