Art Show by Donald Black Jr.

June 12 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us to experience Donald Black Jr’s art work at Western Reserve Land Conservancy! Donald Black, Jr. is a photographer and youth educator. He studied at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication. As an artist and educator, Donald’s work uses the image as intervention to disrupt the racist imagination. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2007 International Nikon Award and exhibits throughout the US and abroad. Donald is founder of the artist’s run space Balance Point in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.

Donald Black Jr’s Artist Statement:

Simply put, I love the experience of being Black, but this shit is hard. Photography has helped me find a balance with this conflict. My inability to shake my experience has transformed photography into an obsession. There are always images in my mind that I am trying to capture. I have developed a sense of purpose and responsibility with this obsession I’ve created.

In this work, the people represent the beauty and our reality is the burden

Donald Black Jr’s work will be on display at Western Reserve Land Conservancy June 5, 2019 through July 26, 2019. The Land Conservancy’s Conservation Center is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 5 PM.

Please join us for a reception with the artist on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 5 – 7 PM. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres provided. Casual attire.
