About our environmental educators:

Why Environmental Education?

At Western Reserve Land Conservancy, we have become very proficient at preserving and restoring our region’s very best natural areas and working agricultural lands. Our work has been driven by an understanding that land saved for land’s sake is a missed opportunity.  Rather, the space we occupy is at the intersection of people and land, where the distinction between what is good for nature and what is good for people is blurred.  In fact, they are one in the same.

Our work is filled with such stories: The fifth-generation farmer who permanently preserves a farm that his ancestors began in the early 19th century, to a family-owned golf course turned into an amazing park and restoration project, to a low-income Akron neighborhood where a pollution laden ditch is now a ten-acre natural park where adults hike and children have a safe route to school.

All of our work is good.  It is all essential for a region that imagines a more prosperous future.  It is, however, not enough.  If our young people are not explicitly connected to nature, then who will walk the woods?  Who will till the soil?  Who will help to conserve the land?

Join us for an Adventure Club series!
